If These Saris Could Talk…

Many of the saris in my collection date back to the 1930’s and 40’s, although some are much older based on the knotted fringe at either end. Still, others have a decidedly psychedelic appearance that date to the 1960’s and 70’s. There’s much history woven into the silk fibers of these saris. For example, in 1932, Air India began its first passenger flights. The uniform of the female crew members were traditional saris, and I was fortunate enough to find a small number of them still in existence. These saris have traveled the world, and as I make them into scarves, I find myself wishing they could talk. I can only imagine the stories they could tell.
