DRAPE
Let me begin by saying I was never a scarf wearer. Scarves were just not my style. Of course, when the weather got really cold, I wore a heavy knit one to keep me warm, much like I did as a kid, but wearing a scarf simply for style was not something I did. I had a few silk and cotton scarves in my closet, but I didn’t know what to do with them. The fabric seemed too stiff or puffy, too skinny, too thick, too formal, too old fashioned - WHATEVER - The point is, they simply hung in my closet.
It wasn’t until I began making my own scarves from vintage silk sarees that I became a fan of them. But what makes my scarves so different from the ones that went unworn in my closet? I can say it in one word -Drape. Scarves are all about the way they drape across the body. This all important drape is achieved in several ways. Firstly, I have learned that the silk has to be the right weight and weave. Secondly, I’ve developed a method of washing and conditioning the silk to give it a sandwashed texture. Not only do my scarves feel soft and sexy, but they drape beautifully adding an element of interest to everything I wear. Thirdly, as long as the scarf has a graceful drape, there’s no need to worrying about tying it the “right way”. I hope to have a short video of several ways I wear my own scarves on this website soon, but honestly, there’s no right or wrong way to wear a scarf. It’s all about the drape.
The scarves take an ordinary top to an extraordinary one in less than 10 seconds. For example, a silk infinity scarf adds just the right panache to a t-shirt and jeans. An old sweater suddenly looks exciting with the addition of a scarf from the Ten Thousand Scarves collection. I could go on and on, but I suggest you don’t take my word for it. After all, I’m selling them. Instead, try one for yourself and see how much it will expand your current wardrobe. And please do let me know. Email me at tenthousandscarves@gmail.com. Hope to hear from you soon! ~Donna
